3 St. Patrick’s Day Activities that are Learning Gold

Bring out your green! St. Patrick’s Day—observed every March 17—is packed with parades, good luck charms, and all things green. The event started as a religious holiday, but over time it’s become a celebration of Irish culture.

Here are three fun ways to celebrate the holiday and learn a few new things along the way.

#1. Check out these surprising facts about this holiday (Why DO we wear grean, anyway?)

#2. Build a Leprechaun Trap

Legend has it that if you catch a leprechaun, he must take you to his pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Keep the magical story alive in your child by building a leprechaun trap together.

(Bonus: your child learns a bit about engineering along the way!) Encourage your child to entice the leprechaun with gold (rocks painted yellow?) and leave a trail of glitter or shamrocks to prove that the magical little man came by.

We’ve rounded up some of our favorite ways to trap a leprechaun to get you started. For an extra-fun activity with the whole family, set up a scavenger hunt around the house with clues that lead to some delicious treats (like chocolate coins). Who knows — you might just find a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!

#3. Pot of Gold Scavenger Hunt

Scavenger hunts are fun for kids and parents alike. It’s a fun way to keep your kids busy while getting them to use their brains with some problem solving - and a fun surprise at the end!

You can make each hunt as big or as small as you want it. For instance, have a pot of gold bowl of candy at the end, with a fun craft kit for the kids. It’s even fun to do without a prize at the end — solving the clues & finding the next one is fun in itself!

We have included a premade scavenger hunt for you or use the blank cards to make up your own clues for different games that can keep the fun and learning going all month long.
